| Thanksgiving at His House God Stories ::: Story from the Refuge/Broward Sunday, November 18th brought about 200 volunteers from Calvary Chapel to show and share the love of Jesus to the homeless and poor in Broward County. Using the text of Luke 14, calling us to give a banquet to the poor, blind, and lame, each table was decorated with fresh flowers, with each place setting containing a scripture about giving thanks. This was our chance to honor those in our society who receive no honor. The morning began with scripture from Colossians 1:12-14, which reminds us of how thankful we are for our salvation. The Refuge church service included our drama team presenting the Creation drama, and a testimony from Lennox, who was homeless and came to Jesus – as he put it, he went from "Crack to Christ." He also graduated from our DEEP Faith classes, held every Sunday at the Refuge. Pastor Bernard gave the message and people came to Jesus. After the service the volunteers began serving our guests a complete Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. After people ate, free haircuts were available to anyone who needed a cut. As people left, they were each presented with a lovebag which contained toiletries, socks (collected at our recent CCA "J.B." drama), a tract, and a hand-colored Thanksgiving card from a CCA first grade student. ::: Story from the Refuge/Avondale On Thanksgiving Day, about 175 volunteers from Calvary Chapel put their plans aside and came to serve a poor community in the neighborhood’s open field only five miles from the church. After we presented the gospel through song, drama and the Word, the volunteers served the families a hot Thanksgiving dinner. What a joy to offer the people from this needy community a great meal filled with love! The children had a blast in the two bounce houses, craft tables, puppet show, and face painting areas, and people received free haircuts from professional barbers from our church. After the puppet show, all the children were given a free spot ball collected as the admission to the CCA "J.B." drama. People came to Jesus and were invited to the weekly church service we do every Sunday in the neighborhood open field. | CLICK HERE to view the His House Follow-Up Photo Album Submit YOUR God Story |
