Residential Program

Our Christ-centered residential recovery program offers healing and restoration for men who are tired and are ready for change. We require a commitment to complete all 4 phases where we provide a structured faith-based lifestyle for men. During the residents time at Calvary House, the men will learn key life-skills through on-campus job training in landscaping, athletic field maintenance, restaurant services, custodial work, and regular maintenance.

Phase 1: Introduction

Men get adjusted to Calvary House, begin journaling, devotions, and operating in our daily schedule. For men to move into the next phase they must learn to live in community with minimal confrontation, journal, take notes at church, read assigned books and turn in reports, work obediently at church, and actively and willingly participate in any other aspect of the Calvary House.

Phase 2: Regeneration

During this phase, men will complete 10-weeks of counseling through an outsourced Christian counseling center. This phase is designed to help the men begin working through deeper issues in a safe and confidential environment. In order for men to successfully complete this phase, they must complete all assigned counselling sessions, as well as adhere to previous expectations from intro phase.

Phase 3: Inner Healing

During this phase, the men will go through inner healing curriculum on Wednesday nights. At this point in the ministry, we believe the men are ready to address and seek healing from deep issues that may have been identified in previous counselling. The men in this phase have also chosen to commit an additional 6 months to complete Calvary House in its entirety. In order for men to move into the final phase of the ministry, they must successfully complete the inner healing curriculum, as well as adhere to previous commitments from prior phases.

Phase 4: Servant Leadership

At this point in the ministry, we believe the men are ready to begin to lead others. They will be recognized amongst their peers as servant leaders and will be tasked with certain responsibilities as well as certain privileges. The men in this phase also qualify to serve in various areas of our church. Part of their responsibilities includes leading their assigned apartment in areas such as devotional time, house disputes, shopping, getting to and from work and church. They will be responsible for the health of their home. They will also qualify for a phone and weekly passes.

Transitional Program

While still living on our property, and after their commitment to the program has been fulfilled, the men will have an opportunity to go through a transitional phase for a period of three to six months. During this time, they will seek employment, as well as build a budget and savings.

Daily Schedule

The daily schedule at Calvary House varies depending on the day of the week. During the week, Monday thru Friday, the men travel to Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale where they will spend most of the day where they are assigned different tasks on Calvary Chapels 78 acre property. The men who are in Phase 2 will meet with their licensed mental health counselor weekly at Calvary Chapel. After work, the men return to the residences where they will eat dinner and attend evening classes.

Testimonials

Nick Lowther

My name is Nick Lowther and I’m from Ridgeland, S.C. I come from a 20-year addiction to oxycontin, methadone, xanax and cocaine. From the age of fifteen, my life was on a downward spiral. To say I was lost would be an understatement. I became a total slave to drugs. By the time I was 35, I had burned every bridge, destroyed every relationship and managed to hurt every person that I came into contact with. I became a professional at stealing, lying, cheating, conniving and manipulating. Witnessing the loss of family members and friends to addiction along with my own drug abuse brought me to my bottom. I was now homeless and without hope. My life was over as I knew it. I asked God to either take my life or come to my rescue. He came to my rescue!! Shortly after a friend picked me up and I was on my way to Calvary House in Pompano Beach, Florida. This is where I met Jesus and finally surrendered. He radically changed me. Set free from the bondage of addiction, God has given me a purpose and a calling for my life. Since completing Calvary House, I have been blessed with a job at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale and I am a full-time student at Trinity International University. I can honestly say for the first time in my life, I look forward to waking up every day. I will be forever grateful to Jesus for rescuing me from that pit and bringing me to Calvary House. The love and grace He has displayed is absolutely incredible. I have been clean for 2 ½ years now and can’t imagine life any other way.

Tim Russo

My name is Tim Russo and I spent 15 years in addiction. I have spent most my life doing whatever I could to make myself feel good. Eventually this led to me abusing drugs and destroying my family. I became a monster. I was like a tornado, ripping through a town and then leaving the mess for everyone else to clean up. I was married with 2 baby girls when I hit rock bottom. I knew now that I needed help and I was willing to do whatever it took to get it. My mother-in-law told me about a place called Calvary House in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I made the call and was admitted into the program a few days later. I surrendered my will over to God and allowed Him to work in my life. I graduated Calvary House 4 months ago and I am now employed at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. I am back with my wife and we now have 3 girls. Jesus has completely restored my life and my marriage. I’m thankful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for always being there for me and my family throughout this journey.

Josh K.

My name is Josh and I was born in a small town right outside of Pittsburgh. I was raised in a Christian home with a good family. In high school I excelled in sports and things seemed to be moving right along. I went off to college and this is when things started to take a turn for the worst. My 8-year addiction journey started. I began hanging out with the wrong people who were doing the wrong things. I found myself doing whatever I needed to do to make friends. I began using drugs and partying to fit in. This was short lived and what started out as “recreational using” became my life. I was now hooked on heroin, pills, cocaine and meth. I was a total disaster. I was arrested twice in a 3-day period for possession and was facing felony charges. This was when I sought out help and decided to enter a 30-day rehab in South Florida. After completing the program, I knew I needed more time. I then entered Calvary House, a long-term residential program in Pompano Beach, FL. This is really when things started to turn around. I surrendered my life and will over to God and allowed Him to work in my life. By the absolute grace of God, I have been clean for 7 years now. He has restored everything that I destroyed. I have been employed by Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale for the last 5 years and have been married to my beautiful wife since 2017. We are expecting our first child in February. My life is nothing short of a miracle and I am so grateful that we serve a God who never gives up on us.

Jeremy Bastin

My name is Jeremy Bastin and I am from Chicopee, Massachusetts. I moved to South Florida when I was 7 years old. Growing up, life was pretty good. For the most part, I had a normal childhood. Things started to change when I started middle school. I began to experiment with pot and alcohol and things went downhill from here. Before I knew it, I was addicted to whatever I could get my hands on. This included oxycontin, LSD, ecstasy, alcohol and cocaine. This lasted 12 years until I hit rock-bottom and realized that I needed serious help. I was on my way home from spending my whole paycheck at the casino and cried out to God in tears to please help me. I was so tired of living this way but I felt stuck. I needed something or someone to intervene fast. Shortly after, a friend told me about a place called Calvary House and that they could help me. I went into the program 4 days later. This is when my life started to change. I realized that I needed to surrender and let God take over. I completed Calvary House after 11 months and started working at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. I met my wife, Rachel, in 2013 and we just had our first child 9 months ago. To say my life has radically changed would be an understatement. God has totally restored everything and has given me a purpose today. Life still has its challenges, those don’t ever go away, but I know how to face them head on now. Jesus gives me the strength that I need to face the pressures of this world. I love my life today and am so grateful for what God has done.

Zach Davis

My name is Zach Davis and I am from Charlotte, NC. I come from a 15-year addiction to crack, heroin, cocaine, benzos, ecstasy and pot. Pretty much anything that I could get my hands on. I was on a mission to fit in and I was willing to do whatever to be accepted. I was using and selling hard drugs at the age of 15. My life was beginning to grow out of control. I was aimlessly wondering trying to figure out what this life was all about. I was lost. Throughout my 20’s it was one bad decision after another. By the time I was 30, I had lost everything. I was homeless and was going from couch to couch trying to keep my head above water. Finally, I had enough. I was tired of living this way and knew I needed serious help. I reached out to a friend who had told me about this place called Calvary House in Pompano Beach, FL. I called them and I was on a plane the next day. I showed up desperate and willing to do whatever I needed to do to get my life on track. I surrendered my will over to God and committed my life to Him. God used Calvary House to change my life completely. Since completing the program almost 8 years ago, I am proud to say that I am still sober and enjoying life. I married the love of my life in 2016 and we started our own business a year later. Life is still difficult and I face challenges all of the time. I am far from perfect but because of God’s gift of grace I am redeemed and can face tomorrow. I am forever grateful to Calvary House and Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale for providing me a safe place to come to learn how to live my life the way God intended me to.
