Our church’s mission is to make disciples of Jesus. The ministries we’ve started all began as a way to do this and reach people beyond the walls of our church.

Connection Stories

Christmas in July

Posted on Mon, Jul 23, 2012

Last December, we challenged you to pray for someone to give a gift box to.

The “It’s a Free Gift” box contained a special Bible, a DVD, and a music CD. Below are two stories of how God used the gift box to affect eternity.

Marley shares: I thought of my friend Barbie when they handed out the Free Gift boxes. I grew up with Barbie, but we had grown apart over the years. We still had a great time when we saw each other, and she was always in my prayers, but the relationship had changed.

The Free Gift box was the last present under my tree, and a few weeks after Christmas I had the chance to give it to her. She was having a hard time at work and with some relationships, so I showed her verses I thought would encourage her. Over the next several months, we talked about how the Bible is a manual for life, and she asked a lot of difficult questions. She explained that although she grew up in a Christian home, she only saw the rules and regulations, not the relationship. Now Barbie prays, reads her Bible, and is discovering more and more what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Grace shares: My neighbor knew I attended Calvary Chapel, but every time I invited her, she had an excuse. When Pastor Bob handed out the Free Gift boxes, I knew it was for her. I gave it to her but didn’t see any results until several weeks ago. Her daughter was having health problems, so she finally agreed to come to Calvary with me. Afterwards, she said she felt less anxious and asked to come back a second time. At the end of that service, she started gathering her belongings, and I thought she wanted to leave. Instead, she walked forward and gave her life to Christ. “I’m going to tell everyone I’m a Christian now!” she exclaimed.
