| Dad, before penning your letter, make a rough draft first. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the words to say to your daughter. Use the example letter below as a reference and personalize it as much as possible. After writing your rough draft, pick out some special stationery to write it on. This will communicate to your daughter the effort you put into this special letter, just for her. The Bible says children are a gift from God, and you (your daughter’s name here) are my gift! Through the years we have had some memorable moments, and here are some that make me smile. (Dad, below are three ideas of moments you could personalize for your daughter. You can share one or more moments.) The Day You Were Born Dad, share how you felt the first time you saw her and held her. Example – Before I ever saw you, I loved you. As your mom was in labor with you, I was like a little kid at Christmas. I was filled with excitement and couldn't wait to see you. When I saw you for the first time, I cried. I’m not the type to cry, but I couldn’t help it. I was so happy and you were sooooo beautiful. I was in awe of you. Your eyes, smile, and fingers captivated me. When I held you for the first time, it was like I always knew you. I felt so close to you. As I held you I thought how beautiful and perfect you are. I also thought, “Don’t drop her!” I felt so privileged to be your dad and still feel that way. Family Vacation Memory Dad, share a memory from a family vacation and why it is memorable to you. Example – You have given me many memorable moments, and this camping moment with you makes me smile. I’ll always remember the summer we went to Slippery Rock. It was such fun swimming with you and letting the current take us downstream. You stubbed your toe more times than I could count. On this trip I realized how accident prone you are, how fearless you are, and what a perseverant spirit you have. I realized how much we are alike. Mom always said that you are just like me. I really saw this was true for the first time on this trip. Living Day by Day Dad, share a moment you remember from an everyday situation. Example – I remember going to your track meet at Durgee. I knew you loved to run but had no idea how good you had become. I was so proud of you as I saw you sprint across the finish line. You may have not gotten first place, but in my eyes you did. You were a good sport and an example to those around you. Your sportsmanship was an awesome witness, and I became your biggest fan. Your running is a gift from God. It’s been my joy to come see you and support you! Dad, this is a time to confess your wrongs, ask forgiveness, and share your desire to be a better father. Again, use this example as a reference, personalize it, and give as many details as possible. Example – (Your daughter’s name here), as I said, you are a gift from God. Please know that I realize I have failed in areas as your father. I have gone before the Lord and asked His forgiveness. (Dad, take the time to do this and read 1 John 1:9)I need to come to you and ask your forgiveness for my failures. Please forgive me for the times I have failed you as your father. Forgive me for the times I’ve done things my way and not God’s way. Forgive me for the times I was a poor example to you. (Dad, if you can be specific, do so.) Forgive me for the times I did not make you a priority in my life. (Dad, if you can be specific, do so.) Forgive me for when I made you feel rejected or unworthy. (Dad, if you can be specific, do so.) Forgive me for the times I spoke unkindly to you. (Dad, if you can be specific, do so.) Forgive me for the times I didn’t discipline, guide, and teach you. (Dad, if you can be specific, do so.) Forgive me for not leading you in prayer and not reading God’s Holy Word to you. (Dad, if you can be specific, do so.) Forgive me for all my past failures as your father, and know I’m asking God to lead me. I desire to be a better man of God. I desire to be a better father to you. Give specific action steps you’ll take to begin to LIVE PURE.| Daughter, I pledge to take the following action steps to LIVE PURE—to be obedient to God’s Holy Word, to be an example to you, and to be a support for you to LIVE PURE too. (Your daughter’s name here), I pledge with God’s help to do the following. Give specific action steps you’ll take to begin to LIVE PURE. Spirit: Example - I will have a quiet time alone with God daily. I will begin to take a Sabbath, devoting one day to rest and spending time with God and family. Dad, share your hopes and dreams for your daughter, heart to heart. (Your daughter’s name here), it is my desire for you to LIVE PURE—mind, body, soul, and spirit—and to see you walk in victory daily, using the gifts, talents, and abilities God has given you for His glory. It is my desire to see you become transformed into the image of Jesus as you seek Him daily by reading His Holy Word and walking obediently in it. I desire for you to find wholeness and completeness in Christ so that you will look to Him for your identity and purpose and not to the voices of worldly influence. As you abide in Christ, I desire to have a healthy, loving, father-daughter relationship. I desire to spend more quality time together and to have the kind of relationship that will cause the world to look at us and desire the same kind of relationship. My desire is for you to cling to Philippians 4:13. |
