Every day in South Florida, an average of 8-12 children are removed from their homes as a result of abuse, abandonment, or neglect. 4KIDS is an organization founded to meet the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of these children. Since 1999, we have provided housing and care for thousands of foster children.
We work closely with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and ChildNet, the lead agency in Broward County.
SAFEPLACE 4KIDS-
When children are removed from their homes, they are brought to SafePlace, 4KIDS’ emergency assessment center.
This 24-hour facility is a protective place that provides for each child’s immediate physical needs in a supportive and loving environment. SafePlace is staffed by trained volunteers and employees eager to alleviate the terror, fear, and uncertainty these children are experiencing.
PLACEMENT IN A FOSTER FAMILY
As soon as a child is brought to SafePlace, a staff member will attempt to locate an appropriate foster family with which to place the child. Due to a shortage of foster homes, a suitable home may not be available. Every day, a staff member receives word that there is a child who is unable to be placed in an appropriate foster home. It may be because of their age, that they are part of a sibling group, or that there just isn’t a home available.
RESIDENTIAL HOMES
To care for these children, 4KIDS has established a number of family-style homes. These homes are staffed by dedicated houseparents who are prepared to provide each child with support and love.
PERMANENT SOLUTIONS
4KIDS offers classes and support services to biological parents in the hope that these families may be reunited. When reunification is not possible, we assist in placing children with loving adoptive families.
INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM -- SPIRIT OF SUCCESS INSTITUTE
If foster children reach their 18th birthday without being adopted or re-united with their family, they are often lacking even the most basic life skills and social support. The 4KIDS Independent Living program -- Spirit of Success Institute -- provides them with a whole team of staff and volunteers available to guide participants on the journey to adulthood.
