Here are some of the things Christians say…
- New Birth: What we receive when we accept Jesus Christ’s gift of eternal life (see Born-Again).
- Ask Jesus into Your Heart: This is a figure of speech that uses a physical organ to describe a spiritual concept. We think of the heart as the place where people make their most important decisions, both morally and spiritually. To ask Jesus into your heart is to invite Him into your life as your Savior and Lord. It describes the act of becoming a Christian.
- Body of Christ: A metaphor describing the entire Church (see 1 Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 4:11–13). The parts of the body represent Christians with individual gifts and talents working together to please God. Jesus is the head of the church (Ephesians 4:15).
- Born-Again: This is not reincarnation or even a Christian denomination—you won’t find a “First United Born-Again Church.” Instead, “born-again” describes the spiritual state of those who commit their lives to Jesus Christ.
- Walk with God: If someone asks, “How is your walk with God?” the person is asking about the status of your relationship with the Lord. If someone is not walking with God, that person is no longer living a Christian life.
- W.W.J.D.: An acronym for the question, “What Would Jesus Do?” The expression, popularized in the 1990s, originated with the book In His Steps by Charles Sheldon. Sheldon’s story tells of a minister who challenges members of his congregation to base every decision on this question.
